A Study on Layer-Encoded MBMS Channel Allocation over Mobile Networks
نویسندگان
چکیده
The multimedia broadcast/multicast service (MBMS) originally proposed by UMTS supports the delivery of multimedia streams to a group of mobile subscribers. With the heterogeneity of device capability and the variety of subscriber preference, an MBMS source has to provide multiple levels of service quality to its group members. The provisioning of multi-level MBMS can be achieved by incorporating the layer-encoding (i.e., scalable-coding) technique. With scalable coding, multiple layers of multimedia data can be encoded, and be properly distributed to various kinds of recipients. This paper investigates the distribution of layer-encoded multimedia data for MBMS. Specifically, we propose a new channel allocation scheme, called Dedicated Channel (DCH) Complementing (DC) scheme, for layer-encoded MBMS. Based on our DC scheme, several channel allocation policies are presented, and the performance of our DC scheme is evaluated through our developed analytic and simulation models. متن کاملExploiting MIMO Technology for Optimal MBMS Power Allocation
In mobile networks, the provision of rich multimedia services, such as Mobile TV, is considered of key importance. To this end, Multimedia Broadcast/Multicast Service (MBMS)—that was introduced in the Release 6 of Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS)—is envisaged to play an instrumental role in the proliferation of mobile market. The reason behind the design of MBMS was the need to ...
متن کاملPower Allocation Strategies in Block-Fading Two-Way Relay Networks
This paper aims at investigating the superiority of power allocation strategies, based on calculus of variations in a point-to-point two-way relay-assisted channel incorporating the amplify and forward strategy. Single and multilayer coding strategies for two cases of having and not having the channel state information (CSI) at the transmitters are studied, respectively. Using the notion of cal...
متن کاملEmbracing RaptorQ FEC in 3GPP multicast services
Multimedia Broadcast/Multicast Services (MBMS) have been introduced by Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) aiming to efficiently deliver data to mobile users in a one-to-many way. In order to provide reliable multicast transmission, 3GPP recommends exclusively for MBMS the use of a Forward Error Correction (FEC) mechanism on the application layer. Raptor codes are standardized as the Ap...
